UCLA Student Groups Call for More Survivor Resources, Title IX Reforms Across UC Campuses

UCLA student organizations are pressing the University of California to strengthen both its response to sexual violence and the support available outside the formal Title IX process. Student groups at UCLA argue that confidential Campus Advocacy Resources & Education offices are trusted by survivors but lack consistent UC-wide funding and staffing. Students previously passed a UCLA referendum that increased student fees to expand CARE peer-education staffing. They are now seeking dedicated funding for every UC campus, clearer information about confidential services, a way for students to provide feedback on Title IX offices and reforms that give survivors more control over how their reports are handled. The campaign also addresses technology-facilitated sexual violence, including AI-generated sexual imagery. Student advocates helped advance the Higher Education AI Response Survivors Act, which extended protections and resources to people harmed through these technologies; California enacted it in September 2026. UCLA students also participated in an October 8 walkout calling for better institutional responses to sexual violence, while campus groups are forming a coalition to coordinate education, advocacy and survivor support across the university.
