Local Activists and Residents Criticize School Library Books with Sexual Content and Call for Changes in the Review Process

Local activists and other residents addressed the school board about books they considered sexually explicit or otherwise inappropriate for students. They criticized the district’s review process and argued that challenged materials remained available too long. The district responded that public testimony alone does not initiate a book review: a parent, employee or district resident must submit a formal reconsideration request, after which a parent-led advisory committee reviews the title and votes on its availability.

Faith Leaders Finish 90-mile Walk from ICE Detention Center Calling for Release of Children and Parents

Faith leaders and community members completed a four-day, 90-mile walk from the Dilley immigration-detention facility to San Antonio. Organized by the Rev. Dianne Garcia of Roca de Refugio Church, the march called for the release of children and parents in federal immigration custody and an end to family detention. Participants walked approximately 25 miles each day. On the final morning, they gathered for prayer and song near the memorial marking where 53 migrants died inside an overheated tractor-trailer in 2022. Additional supporters joined the march as it approached San Antonio.
