Approximately 40 community members and faith leaders marched and prayed outside a planned 528-bed immigration facility at England Airpark in Alexandria, Louisiana. Participants opposed the detention of families and unaccompanied children and called for the facility to be stopped. One participant had also attended multiple public-board meetings and spoken against the project.
Why It Matters
The story documents sustained local participation, not simply a one-day religious observance. Residents used public meetings, community organizing, a march and an interfaith vigil to challenge the creation of new detention infrastructure before children were confined there.
